REDD'S Voice on Male Grooming

This photo shows part of the process of making BLACK SOAP (in a traditional HAMMAM in MOROCCO). Today, we'll address GROOMING; especially for MEN! It's important to take care of your skin (in general), teeth, armpits, hands, groin region, and feet.

In a traditional HAMMAM, patrons bathe (often with natural BLACK SOAP), sometime receive therapeutic massages, and are often groomed with salt scrubs [made of potash]. However, I think that's just scratching the surface. In my humble opinion, it's necessary to wash one's body daily [shower and take periodic baths - in a tub]; see the Dentist every 3-6 months; trim (TRIM, not necessarily shave) the hair under one's arms and even in one's groin region (to reduce the amount of heat produced; and - also - trimming is useful since hair can trap one's natural body "essence"); and treating oneself to periodic manicures and pedicures. If you write this off as an exercise in "Metrosexuality," then you are proving your ignorance and you'll probably be alone for a very long time [because you're too close-minded and ill informed to take care of yourself for yourself, and for a potential mate]! Step into the new millennium; and upgrade yourself a little!

I found this helpful information, "BLACK SOAP is part of the traditional HAMMAM [TURKISH BATH] ritual. It is the first treatment in oriental public bath. With a texture of butter, this natural vegetable paste based (with black olives) is rich in vitamin E. It is obtained from a mixture of oil and crushed olives; soaked in salt and potash. In the nineteenth century it was used as a product of Dermatology, and later became a real beauty tool for the body; suitable for every type of skin. It prepares the skin for exfoliation. The skin will be softer and ready for a scrub. Combined with the action of the Kessa glove [specialized exfoliating glove], it will remove impurities and dead skin. Thanks to its exfoliating and moisturizing, it softens and nourishes the skin. It does not foam, but becomes creamy when you add water.

I don't think that men - especially in AMERICA - understand how significant and important it is to take care of our bodies. Grooming isn't enough, though. It's important to get check-ups with one's primary-care Physician as well. The human body is like an automobile; it's needs to be checked and sometime tuned up. Getting regular check-ups can help us to avoid developing PREVENTABLE diseases; like CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE, DIABETES, and some forms of CANCER. Our interior is just as important as our external shell.  So, get your Blood Pressure & Cholesterol checked; monitor your internal organs; get your prostate examined; and check your blood for traces of lead, mercury, and especially HIV! It's senseless to have great skin and teeth; but be a walking TIME BOMB internally, ready to explode at random.

Men, begin having open dialogue with your sons, brothers, nephews, cousins, etc.! That means, you'll have to get EDUCATED in all of the TABOOS that men tend to shy away from; and tackle them - head on - with the other males in your family and peer group. It also takes a certain degree of maturity and wisdom to first have a desire to educate others, and then challenge your own knowledge in the areas needing to be discussed. This could actually save a few lives. So, let's put away our discomfort in favor of helping someone along.

"From my lips to your soul!"

Peace and love...
